About This Lecture

This lecture consists of two modules, designed to unravel the most common causes and diagnostic challenges to uncover the myths associated with the therapeutic options available in its management of liver diseases. Presented by key opinion leaders and experts in the field, these lectures shall enable clinicians to properly gauge the severity of the symptoms and thereby effectively plan treatment strategies in their patients.

Meet the Faculty

Dr. Dharmesh Kapoor

M.D (Med), D.M (Gastro), M.R.C.P.

Dr. Dharmesh Kapoor is a Consultant Hepatologist at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad. He closely collaborates with the units at Somajiguda and Malakpet. He has a dedicated Hepatology practice involving clinical and transplant Hepatology for over 18 years. Dr. Kapoor is a regular faculty at the annual scientific meetings of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), Indian Association for the Study of Liver (INASL) and Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) where he has delivered more than 200 lectures on a wide range of topics for since many years. He has been at the helm of the DNB training program for fellowship in GI/Hepatology since 2009. With active participation in clinical and bench research, he has conducted numerous national surveys, piloted studies as well as randomized controlled trials. He has showcased his independence as well as collaborative research through presentations at conferences as well as publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has co-authored the Indian Association for the Study of Liver (INASL) guidelines on acute liver failure, nutrition in chronic liver disease and management of chronic hepatitis B and C. He has also contributed to the APASL guidelines on the management of acute chronic liver failure.

Dr. Mithun Sharma

M.D., FACG (Fellowship, Gastroenterology and Hepatology Singapore General Hospital, Singapore)

Dr. Mithun Sharma is a renowned senior consultant in the field of Hepatology and liver transplantation and is currently practicing at AIG Hospitals. He is the Director of Hepatology and Regenerative Medicine and Transplant Hepatology. His expertise in the subject makes him effectively handle the simplest to the most complex of cases in hepatology. He completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the prestigious Singapore General Hospital, Singapore, where he was a part of the liver transplantation unit. He completed his MD in Internal Medicine and MBBS from GMCH, Guwahati with distinction. Recently, he has been honored with the Fellowship from American College of Gastroenterology (FACG). He has numerous highly cited publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals and has made numerous presentations at various national and international conferences. He has also written numerous book chapters in the field of hepatology. He is actively involved in research in the field of hepatology, particularly in stem cells as well as in non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases. He is the principal investigator for the ongoing research on stem cell use in liver cirrhosis, a project approved by the ICSCR.

He also runs the regenerative liver medicine clinic and is actively involved in managing patients pre and post-liver transplantation. He is a member of AASLD, EASL, AGA, ACG, INASL, GESS, and ISG. His special interest and expertise are regenerative therapies in liver cirrhosis, transplant hepatology, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma. He has received B. Braun Scholar of the Year award in 2006 for excellence in postgraduate medicine in India. He also received medals and certificates for securing the state merit positions in the all professional MBBS examinations.
